An update has emerged on scrapped plans for Becky Lynch’s NXT Women’s Championship open challenge on Monday’s edition of WWE Raw.
On the September 18 show, Lynch’s challenge was answered by Natalya, who then unsuccessfully challenged for the NXT Women’s Title.
Following this bout, it was reported that the original plan was for Lynch to put her title on the line against Tegan Nox.
Fightful Select, has shared more details on this change, reporting that Lynch had pushed for Nox to get this match on Raw before the change.
TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd) was listed as the producer for Lynch vs Nox, with the women already having their match laid out when it was changed.
Per the report, Nox was swapped for Natalya just 10 minutes before doors opened to the arena, ahead of the show beginning.
While Fightful noted that the reason for the switch is still unclear, it was recently reported that Natalya received praise backstage for stepping up and pulling double duty at the September 8 Superstar Spectacle event as Lynch wasn’t able to travel.
With the open challenge concept, Fightful noted that some WWE sources had ‘optimistic hope’ that the open challenge would continue, however the report stated that there hasn’t been any guarantee of this.
Nox hasn’t wrestled on Raw since competing in the Tag Team Turmoil match on the July 4 episode.
She has regularly been working matches on Main Event.
That includes last night, as Nox and Natalya being switched meant Nox ended up working a match for Main Event against Xia Li, which is what was originally planned for Natalya.
