Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has reflected on his recent win over Chad Gable on the September 4 Raw, a result that saw him secure the all-time longest reign with the title of all-time.
While the match was closely contested with many moments towards the end where it looked like Gable could pull off the upset win, The Ring General would prevail in the end courtesy of a massive lariat.
While the result was deflating for the live crowd in Charlotte, NC, it was nothing compared to how Gable’s family felt sitting in the front row, specifically the Olympian’s daughter who was shown by WWE cameras bursting into tears upon witnessing the match’s conclusion.
Despite this obviously being a heart-wrenching moment, the Austrian’s reaction was quite the opposite, as he revealed in a recent appearance on WrestleBinge, saying:
“I felt great. I won, right? So, I’m good. I enjoy a little bit of a heartbreak at the end. I was happy to see that.”
Fellow Imperium member Ludwig Kaiser was also present for the interview, adding that Gable’s daughter will have learned a “valuable lesson” by witnessing her father’s defeat.
Despite his failure to prevent GUNTHER from breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s Intercontinental Championship record, Gable made clear the following week on Raw that he was not content to give up his pursuit of the title.
