WWE’s long-term plan for what is being considered the “ultimate destination match” have been revealed in a recent report.
With the lead up to the main event of WrestleMania 39 seeing Cody Rhodes wanting to “finish the story”, his loss to Roman Reigns came as something of a shock to many fans.
Triple H would say that the story never finishes and that certainly appears to be the case for Rhodes and Reigns when it comes to future plans.
According to Dave Meltzer in the current Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required):
“As far as long-term goes, Reigns vs. Rhodes is the long-term direction for the ultimate destination match. WrestleMania is a strong possibility but this far out there are so many things that can happen.”
It had recently been reported that early discussions had suggested Cody Rhodes vs GUNTHER for WrestleMania 40.
An earlier report had also stated that Rhodes vs Reigns was also in discussion for the same event that takes place in Philadelphia in 2024.
In the meantime, however, Cody Rhodes will face Brock Lesnar at WWE Night of Champions on Saturday, May 27.
The card for WWE Night of Champions 2023 on Saturday, May 27 is as follows:
World Heavyweight Championship – Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins vs. AJ Styles
Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship – Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (c) vs. Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa
Raw Women’s Championship – Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka
SmackDown Women’s Championship – Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Natalya
Intercontinental Championship – Gunther (c) vs. Mustafa Ali
Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus
