SEVERAL Catholic groups voiced concern over the recent arrest and detention of a Catholic priest who was accused of allegedly offending a devotee who filed a complaint against him after she was criticized for rejecting and refusing to obey the decrees and guidance of the Catholic Church.
Catholic Faith Defenders National, Parents of Priests Association, Confraternity of Our Lady Mediatrix of all Grace Alabang and The Warrior’s Rosary International are some of the Catholic groups that have come forward to express support for Father Winston Cabading.
These groups joined the growing number of concerned Catholic faithful such as
the Exorcism Cross Group, Work of the Saints Apostolate Movement, Marian
Cenacle of McKinley, Tuesday Marian Cenacle Prayer Group, Young Thomasian Professionals Lay Dominican Fraternity and Carmel of Mary Star of the Sea.
“Even before the priest, Rev. Father Winston Cabading could receive the unfavorable resolution of the investigating prosecutor, an information was already filed in court and a warrant of arrest was issued against him on May 8, 2023,” according to a statement from the Lay Catholic Initiative.
The arrest warrant was served on May 13, 2023 resulting in the priest’s detention over the weekend.
Cabading was able to post bail only on Monday, May 15.
The statement said that the resolution of the prosecutor dated April 20, 2023 was received at the Bahay Dominika in Biak-na-Bato, Quezon City on May 18.
“The resolution was sent to a different address as Fr. Cabading actually resides at the St. Mary Magdalene House in Nasugbu, Batangas, as stated in his Counter-Affidavit,” the statement said.
Father Cabading is supposed to have the right to appeal to the Department of Justice (DoJ) within 15 days from receipt of the resolution but was arrested even before he could receive the document.
