Update On Jay White’s WWE & AEW Contract Talks

Since losing his Losers Leaves NJPW & Loser Leaves Japan matches, the road for Jay White seems to be heading in the direction of WWE.

Dave Meltzer had previously written that “all the circumstances seem to indicate he’s headed to WWE” following his free agent status of February 28 2023.

While there has been no confirmation from either party as to where White will end up, Dave Meltzer has once again provided an update.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Meltzer stated:

“Regarding Jay White, we are told that White has been talking to WWE but has not signed. He is also talking to AEW.

“From someone familiar with the situation they described it as 50/50 which side he would go with.

“Doing the loser leaves town is weird because if he does sign with AEW, he could still work for New Japan, but I guess he wanted to leave New Japan either way rather than come in for major dates so did the total exit angle before while still talking with both sides.”

Meltzer would then go on to compare the White situation with that of Komander, concluding:

“Just to make things clear, WWE had opened talks with Komander prior to AEW announcing him for the ladder match about potentially doing a tryout, but not a contract offer.

“But they did speed up the process, contacting him again right after he was announced for appearing in the ladder match, and again right after the match trying to speed up the process.

“The change in the head of recruiting in WWE has sped up their wanting to consider new talent.”

He had previously stated that WWE was “certainly the favorite” to sign Jay White.

WrestleTalk had previously outlined six ways that WWE could book Jay White debut for the company.

And, to avoid any suggestion of bias, WrestleTalk also wrote of six ways that AEW could book Jay White’s debut.
