The Season 1 finale of HBO’s The Last of Us contained multiple Easter eggs, one of which was never actually shown on screen but the person behind it has now revealed the details. This story contains spoilers for The Last of Us.
Actress Ashley Johnson, who played Ellie in the video games, starred on the Season 1 finale as Ellie’s mother, Anna. She appeared in a flashback sequence showing Ellie’s traumatic birth and Anna’s death, and now Johnson has revealed that the scene was hiding something.
In The Last of Us game, Ellie discovers a note from her mother in which she tells young Ellie that life is worth living and that she should find her purpose and fight for it. Johnson said she wrote out that note by hand and kept it in her pocket as she filmed her scenes as Anna.
