Nixed Plan For Former WWE Star To Win SmackDown Women’s Title Revealed

The original plans for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 have been revealed.

At the actual event, Becky Lynch defeated Ronda Rousey in a three-way match to win both the Raw and SmackDown women’s titles in the first women’s main event of WrestleMania.

Former WWE writer Dave Schilling has now revealed that Mandy Rose was originally slated to win the gold at the event.

Schilling took to Twitter while watching through WrestleMania 35 to note:

The SmackDown women’s title was supposed to be won by Mandy Rose at this WrestleMania. Instead, we got this famous main event.

In another tweet, Schilling revealed that the initial plan saw the SmackDown Women’s Title defended in a different three-way bout:

FYI the SmackDown women’s title match at WrestleMania was supposed to be Mandy Rose vs Sonya Deville vs. Asuka.

Mandy Rose was released by WWE in December 2022, following a 413 day reign as NXT Women’s Champion. This was the only title Rose ever held in WWE.

Charlotte Flair notably defeated Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the March 26, 2019 edition of SmackDown. It was after this victory that it was revealed that the WrestleMania main event would be a Winner Takes All bout.

Flair currently holds the SmackDown Women’s Title, and is slated to defend her gold against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39 in April.
